Acne Treatment

Acne affects everybody at some point in their teen or adult lives and is a constant cause of embarrassment. For some, the acne is mild and does not last for a long period of time, but for others, the acne can be severe and long lasting. Sometimes acne can lead to severe and permanent scarring. Acne is created when the oil glands, called sebaceous glands become blocked. Trapped oil builds up within the gland, causing inflammation. The swelling within the oil gland can become so intense that the oil gland can rupture, causing further inflammation.

There are different types of Acne:
  • Whiteheads and black heads
  • Papules which are small pink bumps visible on surface of the skin.
  • Pustules which are red at the base and have pus on the top and are clearly visible on the surface of the skin.
  • Nodules which are large solid pimples and are painful too.
  • Cysts are painful, and are filled with pus. Cysts can easily cause scars.

Usually a prescription medication is given that you can apply to your skin (topical medication) or take by mouth (oral medication). At M&M, apart from medications we provide our patients with a few other options. We consult with our patients to discuss with them which treatment is best suited for them.

At our clinic we treat acne scars with a new technology called fractional laser resurfacing in which we remove only a fraction of the skin by creating thousands of microscopic "wounds" surrounded by areas of healthy, untreated skin. As a result, the zones of untreated skin accelerate the body's natural healing process and your skin surface heals in a fraction of the time it would require with full laser resurfacing. The treated areas on the other hand, stimulate production of new collagen, help eliminate pigmentation, plump up the skin and smooth out scars and other irregularities. We have used this procedure in our clinic to give excellent results. Laser procedure is used at our clinic as it has:

  • Less Recovery time
  • Minimal Discomfort
  • Excellent aesthetic outcomes

Is a procedure that recharges your look, by buffing away dry, damaged skin cells while encouraging the rise of new, natural collagen: the building blocks of clear, vibrant, youthful skin. It is a time-tested treatment for skin rejuvenation. Microdermabrasion is a treatment in which a hand-held device is used to blow crystals onto the skin. Common crystals used in Microdermabrasion include aluminum oxide, zinc oxide, corundum, sodium chloride, sodium bicarbonate, and magnesium oxide. Aluminum oxide is chemically inert, making it the safest choice for treatment by most professionals. These crystals gently "polish" the skin's surface. Then, a vacuum tube removes the crystals and skin cells. As just the surface cells are removed, the skin is not damaged. This treatment requires a few sessions of treatment.

Chemical peels:

Another method of Acne treatment that we use at our clinic is the use of chemical peels. During this treatment skin is exfoliated using mild acids, which allow dead skin cells to shed more effectively. Some of the peels we use are glycolic peels, salicylic acid peels and citric acid peels. Chemical peels give the skin an even tone making the skin vibrant and glowing. Chemical peels can be used to treat a variety of skin ailments such as acne, dark spots and pigmentation. At M&M we use a deep chemical peel called Glycolic peel, which lightens visible discolorations in the skin. Glycolic acid which is derived from certain fruits and plants assists in the skin treatment by stimulating new collagen and skin growth while allowing dead skin cells to fall off naturally. It penetrates very deeply and quickly treating many layers of the skin at once.

The advantages of using deep skin peels are:
  • Very effective in all types of dark patches or pigmentations.
  • Rapid and easy depigmentation action
  • Compatible with all skin types
  • Light peeling effect
  • Rejuvenates the skin
  • Treatment can be used all year round
  • Beneficial for acne patients
  • Does not contain TCA
  • High safety margin
  • Brighter and more even skin complexion in only weeks.

Before we start the treatment we carry out a full consultation in which a full diagnosis of your skin is made and we also discuss the suitability, benefits and potential side effects with our clients.

We usually use Dermabrasion for severe scarring. This procedure involves removing the top layer of skin with a rapidly rotating wire brush. Surface scars may be completely removed, and deeper acne scars may appear less noticeable.

We use injectable wrinkle fillers to give our patients a more youthful look for a fraction of the cost. Most fillers fill lines and wrinkles in less than 30 minutes with results that can last from four months to more than a year. Injectable fillers or collagen stimulators are the latest weapon when it comes to fighting the visible signs of aging. There are many types of fillers now available to fill in skin lines and creases to restore a youthful appearance. Fillers can also provide volume and fill in cheek and under eye hollows, enhance cheekbones, lips and the chin area. The most commonly used filler is hyaluronic acid which is a water soluble natural body protein; this is injected using a very fine needle into the dermal skin layer where they attract fluid to increase the volume of the treated area.

Many patients prefer fillers as:
  • They restore youthful appearance.
  • Fillers provide volume to enhance facial areas.
  • Effective alternative to facelift.
  • It is a non-invasive procedure.
  • The procedure takes less time and the result can last for about a year.

We provide you with a variety of treatment options but before starting any procedure we discuss in detail the best option that is suited for you.
